Snow Walk

31 October, 1975

I walk along the street so quiet,
With passers by, trudging on,
Through the slush, so wet and cold,
I make my way, and then upon
A word from a stranger, dark and near,
The shadows encroaching like a spear.
I turn around to face my foe,
Only to find a girl I know,
With a single tear upon her cheek
Standing alone among the meek.

Her soul came out and grabbed my heart,
Her loving fingers threw me apart,
And with a roar we merged together,
My mind a t’whirling like a feather.
Our love so strong, it came to pass,
Could never be broken by another lass.
But we found ourselves walking - all alone
Along the street, without a moan,
With flakes of white dropping from the stars,
Through the moonlight to hide dear Mars.

And as we walked on the blanket - white,
Our footsteps crushing the snow with might,
All is quiet ‘cept for the swish of leaves
And our own footsteps that echo from the eaves.
I start to wonder and then I know
The reason why our love does grow,
With her so near I feel so warm
My heart content with a fuller form,
And arm in arm through the swirl of snow,
We make our way - homeward we go.
