Helping fallen people to fly again

By Ian | 5 December, 2012

Nobody knows what somebody goes through when their company they have been building over the years goes bust until they have actually experienced themselves. The pressure is enormous and it is not surprising that people commit suicide. Some are lucky in that they have somebody who will stand bye their side and give them moral as well as material support - others have nobody.

I have been through such phases: Everything seems black, your world has caved in, you see mountains of loans, paperwork, pain. You see light at the end of the tunnel. Your life has no value any more. You are of no value - just a liability.

At the same time you are getting piles of negative impressions/feelings/thought-patterns like you are a loser, a criminal, a traitor to the loved ones around you.

How do you get going again in such a situation?

One of the problems is that the people who are around you do not have the same thought processes - they are not entrepreneurs - they do not understand what drives you - what assets you have got - or give you a different viewpoint to the situation.

Such people drive the economy - once they are on their feet again they create jobs for people (i.e. give people hope/future), bring in taxes.

Recently I have being thinking about how to help such people. Some of my thoughts are:

  • be there, supportive, show that there is a “life after death”, lead by example
  • analyse the person - his thoughts, wishes, personal assets (knowledge, abilities), values
  • spend time with the family and see if their values are the same
  • no monetary help
  • show various possibilities of how to get going again for all concerned
  • better with a team of people, one of which has to be somebody who has gone “bust” in the past

Of course it takes time - it needs spending several hours with the person and family - perhaps a day or two.

I have also wondered what I can call this “cause” and the name Phoenix comes to mind, after the Greek mythology bird that obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor.

I wish I had had this help myself.

Wishing you a great day
