Bringing boxxds out into the field

Building a new site

This month I am building a site for boxxd.org (spoken as “box dot org”) - the the community website based around Boxxd - a lean work and lifestyle app ‘out of a box’ which can be used on any device.

Services

The site will offer boxxd solutions to download, documentation on how to hack your own boxxd, and a starting structure to build a community.

Site build

Boxxd is a compound project consisting of several others (products, product dev, packaging, website) and I just wanted to get a lean viable framework online.

Meet Hugo, the butler

Hugo is a static website builder taking your assets, text files written in Markdown, and building it in anyway you want, fast.

I met up with Hugo a couple of weeks ago and just found it dead simple to build a site.

After playing around and doing a bit of configuration, Hugo automatically builds boxxd.org for me: It creates the lists of boxxds and the Tool°Boxxd components, with links to the components READMEs, pulling out configuration and versioning information from various configuration files.

Over the years I have used Drupal a lot and I was thinking of using it for the site, but although Hugo doesn’t have Drupal’s sophistication, it has a lot of other advantages such as rapid site building on the fly.

Hugo will be a nice butler for some of Boxxd’s needs and already ideas are on the table to integrate it into the Boxxd’s product portfolio.
