Classifying and publishing old materials

By Ian | 13 December, 2013

Whilst revamping my website, I was going through my old poems from my “youth” ;-) years and checking them out. I was at the time under pressure to get the collection of poems finished and took some short cuts.

I have to admit that I now have problems, as I had other values in those days, and my quality standards have changed. In fact with some poems I am simply ashamed that I wrote them.

What should I do with the stuff? Some artists destroy their products. Others rework them. The problem is that somebody can take the old stuff out of context and misinterpret them. On the other hand, people can interpret the newer stuff in ways I have never thought of. So what have I got to be scared of or loose?

People have different tastes, and that was one of the reasons why I decided to publish them. They can take it or leave it.

Normally I give my stuff a Creative Commons non-derivative licence, however for the older stuff I am giving them an attribution, share alike licence. Hopefully if somebody likes something, they can use the material as a stub to create something better out of the original “whisps of thoughts”.
