Slugs with debian 4.0 and LVM

Slugs on the move in the office

By Ian | 1 March, 2007

For a customer I am running two slugs (overclocked NSLU2) with debian 4.0 and LVM. Attached are a couple of disks with several hundred gigabytes. They are being used as NAS’s with samba for a small office, log servers for several servers, archive servers and other stuff.

I am very surprised at the speed of the small things and the reliability.

With debian its a cinch to keep the systems up-to-date and to install other packages.

The only thing you notice compared to larger systems is the limited ram which can slow down things like rsync when used for copying between servers.

Thumbs up to the the debian developers and the people pushing the slug into the debian world.
